BCYCNA MEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: Friday, April 16, 2010.

HOW TO APPLY:

The BCYCNA is offering employees and children of employees at member newspapers the chance to compete for two scholarships worth $2,000 and $1,000. Applicants must be entering full-time first-year studies at a recognized college or university within one year of receiving this award.

CRITERIA:

1. Applicant must be an employee or the child of an employee of a BCYCNA member newspaper.
2. Applicant must be entering full-time first-year studies at a recognized college or university within one year of receiving this award.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Your application must include the following:

• A completed and signed application form. Click here to download the application form.
• Official transcript of high school academic records, showing grades achieved in Grade 11 (full year) and Grade 12 (term to date).
• A letter outlining your career aims and objectives. Discuss your participation in activities that demonstrate your leadership capabilities and community interests.
• A 500-word essay answering the question, “How could your local paper partner with the youth in your community to make a positive difference?”
• Two reference letters from school principal, counsellors or employers.

SELECTION:

The BCYCNA scholarship committee will choose the winners based on scholastic achievement, community involvement and the quality of the written essay. The BCYCNA will pay the scholarship to the post secondary institution when the recipient provides proof of attendance.

TENTH ANNUAL BCYCNA HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

BCYCNA member newspapers have the chance to participate in an exciting initiative both to promote their newspaper in the community and to offer local high school students the chance of winning a scholarship towards their post secondary education.
